Choose the invoice types to apply the surcharge to (standalone, reservation, service) and define when to apply —whether it's through auto-charge (statements section), point-of-sale screen, or online payments. Specify credit brands such as Visa, MasterCard, Amex, Discover, or others. Surcharging is supported for credit card transactions only. Debit cards are not supported. There is no plan to support debit cards at this time.
What does surcharging do?
- The Credit Card Surcharge would allow the marina to add a Percentage or Flat Fee to cover some or all of the Credit Card Processing Fees.
How do we setup surcharging?
- Before implementing Surcharging in your location, please review all applicable State and Local regulations around the amount and/or ability to add Credit Card Surcharging.
- Reach out to your Customer Success Manager or Support@getmolo.com to add surcharging and include the few users at the marina who should have access to edit the Surcharging. Note: this access is typically limited to Management or Accounting.
- Create an Inventory Item that will be used for the Credit Card Surcharging.
- Note: the same surcharge Inventory Item can be used for different surcharge options
- Once the Access to Surcharging is added by our team, you will be able to configure the settings in Admin Settings > POS Settings > Surcharging
What can be set to be part of the Surcharging?
- By Invoice Type: Reservation Invoices, Service Invoices, Standalone Invoices and/or Deposits
- By Section: Auto-charge, Point of Sale Payments and/or Online Payments
- By Payment Type: Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover and/or Other
Does Molo Support Surcharging for Debit Cards?
- No. Due to both contractual restrictions in the payments industry as well as certain federal and state restrictions, we don't offer debit card surcharging as an option in order to limit our exposure and that of our customers. We recommend consulting your own legal counsel or tax advisor for more information.
