- "It seems like my totals are off on some invoices"
- "The tax is a few cents higher than it should be."
Resolution Steps
Unit Price × Quantity -
If a unit price has 3 or 4 decimal places, the system multiplies:
Unit Price × Quantity
Then rounds the result to 2 decimal places.
Example:
Unit Price = 10.9259
Rounded Subtotal = 0.93
Tax Calculation per Line Item -
Once each line item subtotal is rounded, the system applies tax:
Rounded Subtotal × Tax %
The tax result is then rounded using ceiling rounding rules:
Always round up for decimals .001–.004
Always round up for decimals .005–.009
Example:
Subtotal = 0.93
Tax Rate = 0.08875
Raw Tax = 0.0825375
Rounded Tax = 0.09 (ceiling applied)
End-of-Sale Rollups -
Subtotal = Sum of all line item subtotals (each already rounded to 2 decimals).
Total Tax = Sum of all individually rounded line item tax amounts.
Grand Total = Subtotal + Total Tax
