• "It seems like my totals are off on some invoices"
  • "The tax is a few cents higher than it should be."

Resolution Steps

  1. Unit Price × Quantity -

  • If a unit price has 3 or 4 decimal places, the system multiplies:

    • Unit Price × Quantity

    • Then rounds the result to 2 decimal places.

    • Example:

      • Unit Price = 10.9259

  • Rounded Subtotal = 0.93

  1. Tax Calculation per Line Item -

  • Once each line item subtotal is rounded, the system applies tax:

    • Rounded Subtotal × Tax %

  • The tax result is then rounded using ceiling rounding rules:

    • Always round up for decimals .001–.004

    • Always round up for decimals .005–.009

    • Example:

  • Subtotal = 0.93

  • Tax Rate = 0.08875

  • Raw Tax = 0.0825375

  • Rounded Tax = 0.09 (ceiling applied)

  1. End-of-Sale Rollups -

    1. Subtotal = Sum of all line item subtotals (each already rounded to 2 decimals).

    2. Total Tax = Sum of all individually rounded line item tax amounts.

Grand Total = Subtotal + Total Tax
